Today, I saw the Dr. who ordered the barium upper and lower GI thingy last week, he says I have the innards of a twenty year old!!! Everything is running smoothly throughout my altered anatomy!! YAY!! There is no sign of any harmful bacteria in my stool, and I feel good!
It is time for my upper and lower probing though and before he gives me a 100% clean bill. He wants to get the results concerning my Barret's esophagus and it's time again for a colonoscopy. My Dad was a 17 year colon cancer survivor and his brother died of colon cancer. HUGE risk factors for me and my half brothers, so this will be my 3rd colonoscopy and I'm only 47 years old. Early detection equals prevention!
So, I've got the go ahead to pursue, once again the knee replacement! Yippee!!
Meanwhile, my partner Nancy is having a procedure on Tuesday morning and we are asking that all your good wishes, prayers and healing thoughts are with us.

“Just think how happy you would be if you lost everything you have right now, and then got it back again.”
So,Yesterday I had my second opinion appointment with the surgeon. The surgeon who did my gastric bypass almost three years ago. I continue to trust this guy with my life. After all, I allowed him to operate on me when I weighed 430 lbs!
He (and we - Nancy and I) wish that the circumstances of my bowel obstruction had been different. Not so acute, and not having escalated quite so quickly! If we'd had more time and had our wits about us, we would have called him, in Portland, and been life flighted. Had this happened, the guy who knows all about my altered innards could have taken care of the bowel obstruction laproscopically, instead the old fashioned way. Now I have this painful belly incision that is taking a while to heal. It hurts, I have a big piece of scar tissue that aches deep down inside.
But, hindsight is always 20/20, right?
In the end the guy that did the surgery saved my life and I will be fine. I need to wait a few more weeks for my muscles to heal.
Today, I had an upper and lower barium GI thingy. It was gross, the stuff I had to drink. This was to make sure that everything is running smoothly through my gut.
I feel nauseous and yukky today from the chalk drink. ;-(
I see the gastero intestinal guy next week to get the results of today and if everything is OK there, I'm going to go ahead and get myself back into the knee replacement surgery loop.

Emergency Surgery, Anyone??
Monday started out like any other day. I went to work until 10AM and then it was time to take Mom to her monthly lunch meeting of blind and low vision folks. We got back home and the rest of the afternoon was normal too.Mondays are Nancy's long days at work so she wasn't due home until 8PM-ish.
As the evening went on I was feeling more and more terrible. I was having cramping in my belly that started to radiate around into my back. It got worse and worse. Eventually the only place I could find any sort of relief at all was flat out on the floor on my belly. Even that wasn't too comfortable at all.
As soon and Nancy got home she called 911 and I was brought to the ER.
Eventually I was diagnosed with a pretty major blockage in my intestines. Seems that once you have had abdominal surgery a couple times your innards get "tacky" and can slip and twist more easily. In the last 10 years I've had a hysterectomy, gastric bypass and my gallbladder removed. I had a large section of intestine that was just black on the ex ray. So, at midnight on Monday I was headed into the surgical wing.
The surgeon found that about one third of my large intestine was twisted up and inside itself and was getting no blood supply. Once he got things untwisted and organized again they pinked right up and everything was fine. I was brought to my room around 3AM and don't remember a whole lot of what went on until Wednesday. I was so sick and out of it.
I came home yesterday afternoon.
I'm feeling a little better today. I'm very sore and tired. I have about a 9 inch incision running from above my belly button to my pubes with staples holding it closed and I have a belly band with Velcro that I have to wear.
I'm fine and thanks in advance for the well wishes.

A day off!!
I'm actually taking a day off for me!! A mental health day, if you will. Really though, it's a physical health day, I'm not kidding! I woke up yesterday with a sore throat and itchy eyes! 
Today, I'm feeling like shit!
I had planned on working in the bathroom again today, but the fact that the neighbor - sweetheart of a guy - 
is over and working on finishing up the plumbing. No way can I be in there working too!! I'd asked Nancy a couple of weeks ago to ask him if he'd give her a pointer or two on finishing up the shower surround, and next thing we knew, he was taking the plumbing apart and putting in new! Yeeeah Haaaaaw!!! 
I doubted she would be able to figure it out on her own! LOL!
I simply adore this woman though!
No one can hold a candle up to her! 
She isn't all that handy - is all... she is willing and able and learning stuff all around here though, and that is a good thing for all of us! Curt helping is a good thing! She is learning so much just by hanging out with him! After they are done, the bathroom will be good to go! No more mold and no more plastic duct-taped over the hole in the wall! 
So anyway, it's a "no go" for me to be painting in there today, while he is soldering copper! No way! It's way too freaking small in there!
Now, I could have gone up to see what Mom is up to.......
but she has a doctor's appointment tomorrow at 3:30. I plan on leaving right after I get done work tomorrow to go up to her place. I'm anxious about this appointment tomorrow and I know she is too!
........ I didn't go up though today, I chose to stay home and lay on the freaking couch - all - day - long, and do abso-freakin'-nothing!!

YIPPEE SKIPPEE!!!!!
These are two faux turquoise cabochons I made months ago!
I recently started beading a seed bead flower-like bezel around these two large ones. I also have a bunch of smaller cabs that will, along with these finished two, be incorporated in to a much larger, elaborate collar.
I haven't been able to bead or clay for months and months now due to my TWO shoulders enduring torn rotator cuffs!
BOTH where bad, bad tears! I had to wear the large pillow sling for a total of at least six weeks! On BOTH sides! Not to mention that my bicep on my right arm was hanging on by a thread!! Last summer/ fall I was so lame for so long! It was easily Christmas time before I was able to lift my right arm over my head, pain free! My surgery was July 18th last year. This years surgery on my left arm was April 23rd. Today is July 28th, 10 weeks after surgery - I can pinwheel my arm and shoulder, pain free! Yes, PAIN FREE!!! 
It's amazing how much quicker my left arm is healing compared to the mess of my right, last summer!

Bites....
of food and fingers!
This is a quick, easy and YUMMY supper dish I made yesterday! It's simply a layer of frozen cheese ravioli and some frozen meatballs, in this case they are turkey balls! Then I chopped up a Vidalia onion and an orange pepper, then poured over the top a jar of Hannaford brand basil and garlic tomato sauce and sprinkled some salt, pepper and chopped parsley and mozzarella on top. I baked it at 400° for about 20 minutes, or until golden brown and delish!
YUM!!! As you can see by the pic, it's over half gone!!
Saturday at work, I got bit by a rat. A pet rat that was a customer return because it was aggressive. I think the kids terrorized the poor thing!
I'd dealt with feeding and cleaning the rats habitat in the isolation room all week with no problems from the rat, until Saturday morning!
I reached in to get the food dish and BAM! it streaked over to my hand and muckled right onto my finger and wouldn't let go! Yeouch!! I reported it to my supervisor and ended up going to the ER.
I got back to work about an hour and a half later... started completing the morning opening tasks, and I realized my finger was swelling, QUICKLY!! It was hurting quite a bit also! So back to the ER I went and was there until 3:30!! WOW! For a small community as this one is to have an ER that's THAT backed up on a Saturday, can we say: "More quick care medical facilities are needed!!??

NOT my idea of a FUN Saturday!
It's not infected, but the ER doc was mystified as to why it was swelling up so rapidly! He gave me a weeks worth of Amoxicillan and a few pain killers, gave me a sling to keep the hand elevated above my heart, and gave me a note for no work on Sunday and light duty the next couple of days.
So... the pain has gone away and most of the swelling too. This is a good thing.

Weekend
Yesterday I went to work again. I worked from noon 'til four. It was good. Good to get out of the house other than errand running or going up to Mom's. I was tired out after getting home last night!! I'm vastly overestimating how quickly my shoulder is healing. Don't misunderstand... it's healing wonderfully and my physical therapist, Dana, say that it's leaps and bounds ahead of my right shoulder, which was repaired by the same surgeon last summer. I'm being impatient. Because it's doing so well I want it to be better, completely. NOW! Dammit!! I'm tired of being in a sling, I'm tired of being severely limited as to what I can do. I'm tired of it hurting. I'm just impatient.
I'd put some turkey cutlets in the crock pot yesterday morning along with some crushed Italian tomatoes and paste and some Italian veggies and mushrooms. What makes them Italian veggies as opposed to... say French veggies I'll never understand. *G* It was delicious when I got home and we ate. I LOVE no fuss yummy meals!
While I was gone, Nancy worked some more upstairs... details. DETAILS! The old saying "The devil is in the details" makes perfect sense to me. These rooms are taking much longer than we'd anticipated. She scraped and primed the crown molding in the bedroom and touched up ceiling spots in both rooms.
This morning after leisurely cups of coffee and home made banana walnut muffins on the front porch, we went upstairs and worked a bit more. She painted out the crown molding in the trim color while I finished caulking and trimming out the two windows. She then moved into the dressing room and scraped and taped the crown molding in there. I also vacuumed up all the loose paint chips from the painted floor and we realized that it was chipping. Easily. Ak! So, that will get another coat of paint and then a final coat of satin finish polyurethane. Hopefully that will stop the chipping.
This afternoon we are being deck dogs again. It rained yesterday and today it's a mix of clouds and sun, but nice and warm... so here we sit, me putzing on the laptop and her doing her Sudoko and reading her book. The dogs are lazing in the sun too!
Tomorrow is back to reality. Nancy goes back to work and I have a big day with Mom. It's our monthly go-to-lunch-with-the-the-low-vision-group and then I'll do her groceries.
On Tuesday I'll get back to trimming out the dressing room.

Offensive?? I think not!!
Yesterdays post was NOT my norm. I'm not very political, although I do follow what affects me. This blog is for me, a place where I can talk about me, my loving partner, our home, our beloved pets and of course my main focus is my art work. It seems every time I stray from my regular focus and comment on something political, as I did yesterday, that's the day that someone comes to my blog, for the first time, looking for polymer clay work or jewelry, they see that political (usually about my Lesbianism) post and wham! They are so offended that they find it necessary to shoot me an email telling me what a terrible person I am for throwing my sexuality in their face! They (innocently) are looking for artwork and they happen across my "offensive post!" Sheesh! Get a grip people! Talking about my basic rights as a human being having been denied me is NOT offensive. Talking about what my (yes, female) partner did to help me whilst I was having shoulder surgery is NOT offensive! I read other artistic blogs all the time and they always post about their family life and various things that affect them. Do I find that offensive?? Nope. And if I did, I'd simply mark it as "read" in my reader and go on about my day! We all have things in our lives and beliefs that not everyone is going to agree upon! Just let it be and don't bash someone because they do or believe in something that you don't!

Our house plants live on the front porch all summer, the aloe has seen better days, seems every time it gets to looking good the dog knocks it over and breaks a bunch of leaves! The orangy-red begonia was sent to me by a dear woman I know when I had my shoulder surgery. It's quite lovely!

New pics - shoulder PT
I have been working on setting and resetting my stores, PayPal, Etsy and eCrater. I made a Flickr badge with the new pics and I'll be adding all the items to my store, eventually.
I have PT on my shoulder today and I'm really pleased at how well it's been feeling! Anxious to get rid of the sling, but that won't happen for another 3 weeks! Ak! *smile*

Surgery, pain and healing
I had my shoulder surgery last Wednesday. Things went well, no real surprises this time around. I had a large rotator cuff tear and a LOT of arthritis. He went in and repaired the tear and scraped out the arthritis. LOTS of pain upon awakening in recovery. Apparently they've had a lot of trouble with the pain pumps leaking and not working correctly, so they aren't using them any more!!! The nurses were telling Nancy that they've had a TON of trouble with folks coming out of surgery in huge amounts of agonizing pain. After pumping me full of narcotics that did very little to relieve me, the anesthesiologist gave me a pain blocker in my neck artery. Knocked me out for hours! We finally got home around 5PM, we arrived at the hospital at 9AM. It was a long day!!
Sweetie was a champ though it all!! I am a total bitch when I have unresolved pain. I can hear the little sane censure voice in the back of my head telling me to keep my mouth shut and be nice, but the drugs sap my patience and make me say the the most mean things to sweetie and the poor nurses who are all doing their absolute best to take care of me. All the while, my mouth is running on and on, spewing sarcastic comments and malevolent statements aimed at whomever happens to be within earshot. Immediately upon saying them, I'm apologizing for them!
*sigh*
Because of all the drugs I had on board, they were very concerned about me sleeping and told sweetie to pay attention to my breathing that night. We all slept downstairs on the couches, and I was awake practically every hour on the hour!! Sweetie got very little sleep, I was in agony and poor Dilly had no clue what was going on except she knew I was not right and she sat and stared at me most of the night.
Bone surgery is the most painful kind of surgery there is! Ow!

Shoulder surgery
I just received my phone call from the nurse at the surgical unit at the hospital and I have to be there at 9AM. *sigh* Yep, I'm a wee bit nervous, as I should be with impending surgery, I know, think positive, and I am! Yet, I'm still allowed to be nervous. I HOPE that all goes well and I won't be laid up for too long. My right shoulder (surgery happened on July 20th, 07) was quite involved and took a long to to heal. I hope this one isn't as complicated! All I know is that I want the pain to stop, soon!

ICE OUT
When will Ice Out occur on our back deck??
These shots where taken on Saturday March 22, 2008. In Augusta, ME.
"Ice Out" is when all remnants of our snow and ice mountain are gone off our westerly facing deck in Augusta, Maine, it can still be wet, but all snow and ice must be gone. The deck is 12ft. X 12ft. Take into account that the dogs will be walking on "the mountain" and there is still some snow on the two intersecting roofs above the deck which might slide off and contribute, or it might just stay on the roofs and melt there..

What's new
It's been quite some time since I've posted any PC work, and this is not the only thing I've done lately, but it's all I can post as it's part of the cane swap I joined over at PCC. Shhhhhhhh! *G*
In other areas, we just arrived back home, in between snowstorms, from sunny, beautiful, wonderfully warm and luscious Key West!! We were there for a glorious week of relished relaxation, fun and laughter, sun, shopping, and REST!!!
YAY!
The only problem is Nancy went to work this morning and a few hours later, she was on her way back home, sick with a stomach bug! Yep! Both ends!! Must have picked something up at one of the airports or airplanes we were on. Yuck! Poor baby.
I just hope I don't get it!
I don't go back to work until Wednesday, tomorrow I'll spend some time with my Mom and then everything (hopefully) will be back to some semblance of normal.

And now for something totally different...
Yesterday I had my appointment to have my spinal epidural injection in my lower spinal column, 3rd injection in 8 months, second in this location. I have had tremendous success with these shots, however they kind of lay me up for a couple days. The relief I have for months afterward is worth it though!
So yesterday I worked in the AM and then went for the procedure, didn't sleep well (restless) and have a pretty significant headache today. Hopefully that will settle down later today and I can get back into the studio again, I have to reduce the cane I made earlier and work more on my multi media beads (PC and PMC) and I'd like to begin my plaid cane. I joined a cane swap hosted by Linda Weeks over on Polymer Clay Central and need to make eight geometric canes for it.
We are counting down to our to Key West trip! YAY!

I plan on doing some much needed recharging and shopping in as many bead and funky touristy places I can find. Then, after coming home, I need to really get back into the swing of things creatively. I have a few crochet bags that need liners, two other half made sew only bags, a commission on one of those badge holders thingy's, more swap canes, and a bunch of finishing work on my various and eclectic jewelry elements I've seemingly forever been working on and I think I'm going host the Bug Swap again this year.
