Spring Equinox Puppet – one on one swap

puppet2This is the fun little girl I made for the one on one swap I joined over at swap-bot.com. It was a spring equinox theme, so she has lots of cane slices on her torso and very colorful skirts! She’s also carrying some polymer clay flowers and a pair of heart shaped opera glasses!!

Ha! Ha! My muse! Such a goofball!!

Wire Crochet purse pouch w/ Polymer Clay closure

I just finished up this little purse pouch. The phone in the photo is a Samsung A737, which measures 10 x 4.8 x 1.55 cm.

It's beaded silver tone bright wire crochet with black freshwater pearls, red coral chips, turquoise chips, assorted size glass seed beads and a couple fine silver beads thrown into the mix.

I lined it with a purple polka dot fabric and the elastic closure fits over a blue mica shift polymer clay button.

So far so good!

I'm liking the results I'm getting with my new picture taking photo studio set up thing-a-ma-jiggy in the attic!! I need to tweak a couple small things after lunch and then i believe I'm golden!

It's certainly NOT a bright summer day on the back deck, but it's way better than having the piece sit on the footstool with the glaring flash on the camera!

The pic could do with a bit more editing, but I'm jazzed so far!!

Trudging along.....

Kind of a neat picture of a guy trudging along on wet sand in this "flickr find" I found -

Mom has been sick and not getting better for a few weeks now. We went to a "quick care" place a week ago, she had all sorts of tests and internal pictures done with no releif from the scripts he gave! *sigh* Then, Tuesday we went to her regular doctor, except he was on vacation, so we saw a PAC and Dr. who was on call... had more tests done and another ex ray done! Yesterday I was expecting some news from this doc on call and found that NOTHING was conclusive about her diagnoses! OY! So we now have another appointment on Tuesday afternoon to see her regular doctor who knows her! *SIGH* She is, among other things, having trouble breathing. Could it possibly have anything to do with decades of smoking!!?? Hmmmmmmmmmmm, I wonder...

Nancy and I've been working so hard to get the bathroom done so we can move her down here! It seems as if we are the guy in that picture trudging through wet sand! Akk! It just seems to be the project that is taking FOREVER to finish!!! AKK!!! All I want to do is get her, her bed, her recliner and her TV down here so I can take car of of her!! I'm worried sick about her being alone when she isn't feeling well!

So, Monday I was off and I worked on the fauxing of the bathroom walls again. I got a good chunk of it finished. This morning I worked in there for a bit too. Here's a pic of the unpainted interior door with some of my faux work.

I have been scheduled for over 30 hours this week and will get probably get close to that many next week too! Covering other folks vacations. Good for my wallet, bad for my time to work on the bathroom!

I REALLY like the richness of the look on the walls!! I plan on waxing and buffing the walls as a final step in my process. Nancy is having a difficult time picturing what the final room will look like.

I've decided that the woodwork and trim is going to be yellow.... so I played with the last picture in my photo editing program to give her and all you blog readers an idea of what the cabinet and trim will look like in yellow.

Polymer Clay Creativity Workshops!

Polymer Clay Creativity Workshops!

Taught by Connie of “Constance Pelkey Designs”

Workshop dates:

September 13 & 14 ~ or ~ October 11 & 12

Polymer Clay offers a rich and varied playground for artists of all ages and skills. It is a medium that appears almost eager to please, allowing its use in a surprisingly wide range of styles and rendering techniques.

It can be made into flat collage illustrations and surface decorations of all sorts. It's also great for sculpting figures, creating decorative household items or beads and personal adornment.

These workshops take the students from the beginning basics of working with Polymer Clay to an intensive look at the wide variety of creative uses and embellishment potentials of polymer clay.

A wide array of techniques will be covered. Included are basics of preparation, color blending and simple "cane work" or millefiore. Then we will move to surface decorating techniques like mokume gane (a technique taken from Japanese metal and wood working) stamping, inclusions, ghost imaging, texturing and faux effects (mimicking bone, wood, turquoise, etc). Storage and baking, safety issues, and finishing options will also be covered.

Each workshop will be given as a two day session (ten total hours) with technique demonstrations by the teacher and plenty of student 'hands on' work time. We will start off with polymer clay basics and work our way to more in-depth detail of the various surface embellishment techniques. Students will ultimately make a variety of bead "samplers" and decorate small storage boxes with mosaic tiles and pieces using the techniques learned in class.

Students will need:

  • a healthy curiosity and willingness to have FUN!

  • a work surface (acrylic plate, ceramic tile or other similar non porous surface)

  • other tools as desired, including, but not necessary; a pasta machine

Many tools and supplies such as clay, foils, powders, inks and stamps, texture plates. and more will be provided for use in class.

There will be two motorized pasta machines available.

  • Ovo-Lacto Vegetarian, sugar free lunches will be provided. Bring your own drinks.

  • Unfortunately my studio is not handicap accessible, as it's located on the second floor of my home. If you can not do stairs, PLEASE let me know and we can arrange a time and price for me to come to you!

COST OF TWO DAY WORKSHOP IS $135

Bathroom update.

Yesterday I finished up painting the walls in the bathroom. I still have to do the faux work and then paint the second coat of the wood work. After that is done all the painting in there will be finished.

Tomorrow and Saturday Nancy will work on the shower surround.

We still have to pick out fabric for the shower curtain topper, a sink "skirt" and a valence, I'll be making these.

I'll also make some pieces of art for the small walls behind and next to the toilet.

I'll also have to fabricate some kind of light fixture shades.

Colors?? Patterns??? Decisions we'll both have to make!

PHEW!!

Fun with Pictures

I made a seared scallop salad for us yesterday for dinner. It was just a plain green baby leaf salad with carrot matchsticks and a tomato from our garden with shredded sharp cheddar. Here's a shot of the scallops in the saute pan. I did them simply with butter, a touch of garlic, some salt and cracked black pepper and a quick shot of lemon to finish it up. Then I just sliced them up and put them over the greens and added some croƻtons. YUM!!

This shot is taken with my new cell phone. It's a Samsung Slider and I love it! I think the picture quality is pretty darn good!

Here's a fun shot of the house I took yesterday with my cell camera. I played with the editing options on this one and chose the "milky" look. Kinda cool, I think! Looks like it's part of a dream.

Here's the same shot, cropped and in sepia. Looks like it was taken 100 years ago! Fun!

Painting the bathroom.

Here's a few shots of my work from today. Tomorrow morning I work until 10 and then it's up to Mom's. She's been feeling poorly, the humidity is really kicking her ass this summer and she's been having bronchial troubles.

I work again Wednesday morning until 10 and then I'll work some more on the walls in here in the afternoon.

The bathroom - looking in the door, after texturing, before painting.

Standing at the toilet, looking out into the dining room.

Cutting in the sky blue ceiling.

More ceiling and some of the unfinished shower surround.

The sky is blue... and still wet.

After cutting in, rolling and then touching up the ceiling - twice! - it's acoustic tiles! - AKK!! - my arms were waaay too tired to do any detail work, so I just rolled out some of the fields on the walls. My shoulder is doing soooooo well, but working over head is VERY tiring, still!!

Looking back out to the dining room.

Close up of the texturing. Before you judge, be certain to wait on the final effect. The color looks like baby poop smeared on the walls at this point! There will be a darker color glaze wiped on and then off for an antiquing faux effect.

Here's the ugly tile surfaces (in the pictures above and below this text) that will be covered with polymer clay tiles of suns and Saguaro cactus and then 2 part epoxy resin will be poured over them to make them water proof.

All the trim work and cabinets will remain the lighter color with no faux-ing on them. I'll also cover the door knobs and drawer pulls in polymer clay to match the colors.
